From Guitar's Perspective
America is unfair. Black people face injustices everywhere. There are not any white people who live where we live because they live in nicer, wealthier areas. If a black person gets killed there is no justice. It is important to provide the justice by balancing the scales. That's why I joined the Seven Days. It is about my love for black people, not a hatred of white people. While they act out of hate, I act out of love. This separates me from them. The Seven Days are not the aggressors; rather, we just react to acts of violence against us. Many other black people blame the victims. They say that the victims should know better. That the victims should know how to act around white people. That the victims are at fault for being killed by white people. They simply internalize the racism that white people aim at us. When Pilate came down to the police station, she acted in a way that confirms the white police officer's stereotypes of black women. Milkman has all the privilege in the world and he still wants to hog the gold for himself. I saw him try to ship the gold to himself without giving any to me. He tried to convince me otherwise, but I know they truth. "Everybody
wants the life of a black man." (Morrison 222). White men, white women, and even black women. They can't leave me be, they always want something from me. Hagar's love for Milkman is an example of this ownership that black women try to place on black men. Hagar feels she owns Milkman and when he doesn't love her she falls into a depression. America is unfair, but at least I'm trying to do something about it with the Seven Days.
Hey Sohil, I really like this post especially since I did something similar (in the sense that I took Guitar's perspective). I think you made a typo on "but I know they truth" but otherwise this post is really good. This is exactly how Guitar would justify his criminal activity in the Seven Days. This is a convincing perspective of how Guitar would speak about white men and women and black women trying to take a hold of a black man's life.
ReplyDeleteI like you you took how Guitar really thinks from inferences from the book and applied it to your blog. I also did Guitar's perspective just because I think it is very unique and hard to understand. I think you did a really good job on showing the root of Guitar's actions and The Seven Days. Good work Sohil.
